Just realized my torque wrench was off by 15 ft-lbs after a rebuild in Tulsa last spring

Been chasing a mysterious oil leak on a 6.7 Powerstroke for months until I calibrated it at a shop in OKC and found the culprit, anyone else ever had a tool throw off their whole diagnosis?

Those bolt failures on a 7.3 usually come from overtightening, not undertightening. If the wrench was reading high, sure, but snapping bolts points more to the bolts being old or over-torqued to begin with. Your buddy's wrench might have been fine, just the bolts were already stressed from previous work. I've seen more 7.3s get hurt from guys chasing torque specs with rusted or reused bolts than from a bad tool itself. Checking the stretch on a few bolts after the fact tells you more than the wrench readout ever will.

Borrowed a buddy's torque wrench once and wound up snapping bolts in half on a 7.3 rebuild.
