I used to chase a perfect torque spec until I snapped a head bolt on a Cummins ISX last spring
For years I was obsessed with hitting the EXACT number in the manual. Thought anything else was hack work. Then I had a 2019 ISX in the shop, followed the spec to the letter with a calibrated wrench, and the bolt twisted off at 90 ft-lbs. My foreman came over, looked at the threads, and just said "did you clean the damn holes?" Turns out I had been skipping thread cleaning for years because I was too focused on the number. Been using a tap and compressed air ever since. Anyone else find out they were skipping a basic step for way too long?

Yep. Clean threads matter more than the number.
