Honestly, I wasted about $150 on a 'quick fix' fuel additive for an old 7.3L Powerstroke that was running rough. It was a total scam.

The 7.3 Powerstroke is an indirect injection engine, so most fuel additives don't really touch the main issue. The rough running is usually from the injectors or the high pressure oil system. I'd check the ICP sensor connector for oil first, that's a free diagnostic.

Actually I've seen fuel additives clean up rough idle on these trucks plenty of times. The injector o-rings can get hard and additives with detergents can help them seal better. It's a cheap first step before digging into the high pressure oil system.
