Had to choose between a reman and a junkyard engine for my 7.3

Went with the junkyard motor from a 2000 F-350 with 180k on it instead of a reman from a shop in Dallas. Six months later it's still running strong, no blowby, and it cost me $2,800 vs $5,500. Anyone else gamble on a junkyard engine and get lucky?

$2,800 and no blowby? Damn, that's a steal.

Friend of mine @paigewood grabbed one just like that, motor ran smooth for two years before he sold it.

Does anyone ever talk about how the real gamble with junkyard motors is the unknown history, like if it got overheated or run low on oil before you got it? I mean, @gavin928's friend lucked out too apparently, but I'd be nervous about hidden damage that doesn't show up for a few years. Still, for damn near half the price of a reman, hard to argue with your results.
