Had a piston ring land crack on a 6.7 Powerstroke right after I told the customer it was just a bad injector
Was working a roadside call on I-85 near Atlanta last Tuesday, truck was smoking and knocking, pulled the valve cover and found the number 3 cylinder was washing down with fuel, then when I borescoped it I saw the ring land was completely gone on the piston, and had to call the guy and tell him he needed a whole long block instead of the $400 injector job I was quoting.

Oh man, that's rough. I had something kinda similar happen with a Ford van a few years back, I was chasing down a misfire and swore it was just a bad coil pack. Swapped it out, fired it up, and the thing was still shaking like a dog passing a peach seed. Ended up pulling the intake and found a chunk of carbon stuck under the intake valve, had to tear half the top end off for a $0.00 problem. Customers never forget that kinda thing, do they?

That $0.00 fix story hits home (I've chased my tail like that before).
