Finally broke down and bought a $700 smoke machine for finding intake leaks.

I was tired of guessing with soapy water on a 6.7 Powerstroke that kept throwing codes. The machine found three small leaks in under ten minutes, including one at the intercooler pipe I never would have spotted. Anyone have a good source for the fluid that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

Just make sure you're using the right fluid type, some of the cheap stuff can leave a residue that gums up sensors.

Oh man, that residue point is so true. It makes me wonder if that gunk could actually void a warranty, you know? Like if a sensor fails and they find that cheap fluid gunk inside, they might blame you instead of fixing it. Always feels like a hidden trap with some car stuff.
