The new city hall in Springfield had these raised floor dots I'd never seen before...

They were at every door and stair, and a guide told me they're tactile paving for people with low vision, which made me think about how often we forget touch in digital design.

It's not just about helping people with low vision, it's a better way for everyone to get around. Our brains process touch way faster than sight, so that little bump under your foot cuts through the mental clutter. We're missing a huge chance by not using more texture in everyday design.

Ever notice how many public signs are just visual noise? We plaster walls with text nobody reads, but a simple textured strip on the floor actually works. It's like we design for being looked at, not for being used. That missing layer of physical feedback makes so much stuff harder to navigate than it needs to be.

The braille dots on elevator buttons are the only ones I actually notice.
