Standing desk for 2 years, just found out my monitor was 4 inches too low

Been running a standing desk at my place in Portland since 2022, always thought I had it dialed in. Last week my friend who does ergonomics checks for Intel came over and measured everything, turns out my eye line was hitting the top third of my 27 inch monitor the whole time. She put a box of old textbooks under it and my neck pain faded in about 3 days, so now I'm torn between buying a proper monitor arm or just stacking more random stuff, has anyone else been humbled like this after years of thinking you were fine?

My buddy Dave had the same thing happen after 3 years at his desk, he was sure his setup was perfect until his wife measured and found his mouse pad was sitting 2 inches too far right. He spent a week trying to fix it with folded cardboard and a couple of old wheel weights from his garage before he caved and bought a cheap monitor arm. I get the appeal of free stuff, but once you feel that neck relief go away, you'll probably end up spending the money anyway.
