Serious question, does a standing desk actually help anyone?

I read a post from someone in Portland who said they spent over $800 on a motorized frame and still ended up sitting most of the day. They called it a 'very expensive clothes rack.' My takeaway is that maybe the focus should be on a chair you actually want to sit in first. Has anyone found a standing desk useful for specific tasks, not just as a default?

Honestly, my standing desk is basically a fancy monitor stand that I lean against sometimes. Tbh I only really use it for like, reading long articles or when my back starts to ache from the chair, which @blair506 knows is pretty often. Ngl, it's not a magic fix but it's nice to have the option without making a whole thing about it.

Is it really that deep though? I bought a basic one a while back and just stand when I feel like it, no strict schedule. It's fine for checking emails or taking a quick call, but I'm not gonna act like it changed my life lol. That Portland story is pretty funny, sounds about right for most fancy gear.
