PSA: My monitor arm almost took out my cat last Tuesday
I was in my home office in Portland adjusting my dual monitor arm setup (you know the heavy gas spring kind) and I didn't tighten the clamp enough. Around 2pm my tabby jumped up on the desk to say hi and the whole thing tipped forward. Scared the heck out of both of us. The left monitor landed on a stack of sketchbooks so no damage but now I triple check that clamp every morning. Has anyone else had a near miss with their desk gear and a pet?

Seventeen pounds of pure chaos. That's my orange tabby, and I see this whole thing differently. Not to be harsh, but maybe the real issue isn't the clamp, it's having a heavy setup that can tip that easily in the first place. I had a similar scare with my cat and a cheap monitor arm a few years back (the thing was like a noodle), and instead of just checking the clamp every day I swapped to a sturdier base that bolts right into the desk. Now my cat can jump on the desk like a little idiot and the monitors don't even wiggle. Feels like a more permanent fix than just tightening a clamp and hoping for the best, you know?

Bet my cheap setup would fold if my cat just looked at it wrong.
