My standing desk motor gave out after 3 months and I'm not mad about it
Everyone online talks about getting those fancy electric standing desks like they're the holy grail of workspace setups. Well, I grabbed a pretty popular model from a well known brand back in October, and the motor just straight up died on me last week. It started making this grinding noise and then just stopped moving at all around the 30 inch height. Instead of freaking out, I actually took the thing apart and found a loose gear inside the motor housing. I called their support line, they sent me a replacement motor for free in about 4 days, and I swapped it out myself with just a screwdriver and some patience. Honestly, this whole thing made me think maybe the crank style manual desks are actually more reliable long term since there's less electronics to fail. Has anyone else had a motor die on them and decide to switch to a manual crank instead?

Same thing happened to my desk after four months, swapped to a crank and never looked back.

Did you ever figure out what made the motor quit? Mine started making a grinding noise right around month five. Opened it up and found a gear inside had basically turned to powder.
