My monitor arm install took 8 hours because of a stud finder issue

I thought mounting a dual monitor arm would be a 30 minute job for my desk in Houston. Turns out my cheap stud finder kept beeping false positives on the wall. After drilling 4 test holes and patching them up, I finally borrowed a magnetic one from a neighbor and found the real studs in 2 minutes. Has anyone else had a basic tool completely ruin a quick project like that?

Oh man, "stud finder kept beeping false positives" - I feel that pain so much, happened to me with a simple shelf!
