Last Tuesday broke me - 13 hours fighting a monitor arm that just wouldnt stay tight

I thought I was being smart buying a cheaper gas spring arm but it kept drooping every 20 minutes and I ended up stripping the tilt screw trying to fix it. Has anyone else had luck with those heavy duty arms under $80 or should I just save up for an Ergotron?

Maybe it's just me but "broke" seems a bit dramatic for a monitor arm situation. I mean yeah, stripping a screw is annoying and having your monitor droop every 20 minutes would drive anyone crazy. But the way you describe it sounds like you went through some kind of war. Not saying it wasn't frustrating but 13 hours is a long time to fight with a piece of metal and plastic. Idk, maybe try tightening the gas spring with a heavier monitor or something before you drop Ergotron money.

...until I spent a whole Saturday with a cheap Vivo arm and ended up with a bruised knuckle and a crooked monitor. I used to roll my eyes at people calling monitor arms a nightmare, but honestly I get it now. Something about fighting with a piece of hardware for hours just makes you question all your life choices. You're not being dramatic, sometimes a simple project turns into a battle of wills. Ergotron is expensive but I finally caved and bought one and I haven't touched it since I set it up.
