A customer showed me her desk setup and I had to ask about the lamp

Last Tuesday a woman came into the hardware store looking for a dimmer switch and we got talking about her home office. Turns out she uses a $15 clamp lamp from our aisle pointed at the wall instead of a fancy desk light and says it works better than anything expensive. Has anyone else tried bouncing light off a wall like that or am I missing something?

Did she say what kind of bulb she's using in that clamp lamp? Like a daylight LED or a warm white one? I figure that makes a big difference if you're bouncing it off a wall, maybe the color of the wall paint matters too. I'm kind of wondering if she just got lucky with her setup or if this is actually a solid trick anyone can pull off with the right wall and bulb.

Does anyone actually use daylight LEDs in their house or is that just for people with severe houseplant addictions?
