Vent: Spent 6 months journaling wrong before I figured out the 3-line trick

I kept trying to write full paragraphs every night and just gave up after 3 weeks. A buddy told me to cap each entry at exactly 3 lines, no exceptions. Now I've kept it going for 4 months straight and I actually look forward to it. The key was removing the pressure to write something profound. Has anyone else found a simple constraint that made a habit stick?

Is the trick really about the 3 lines though, or is it more about the lower barrier of entry? Because I feel like that's the real secret - once you take away the need to write something deep or meaningful, it frees up your brain to just actually do it. I tried bullet journaling with strict themes per page and it fell apart within a week, but a simple "what happened today in one sentence" rule has stuck with me for like 5 months now. The strict format kinda becomes a scaffold instead of a cage after a while.

Sounds like you finally tricked yourself into being productive.
