Man that's a rough one. Planners can be tricky because you kind of have to build the habit of actually looking at it every day. Maybe you could try leaving it open on your desk or nightstand so it's the first thing you see in the morning.

Oh man, @robinmason is spot on. I had a buddy who swore by his planner but kept forgetting to check it - finally started taping it to his coffee maker so he couldn't miss it before his morning caffeine fix.
