My mentor told me my 5-year plan was too rigid and to focus on the next 90 days instead.

I switched from a detailed 10-page document to a simple Trello board with just three columns: Now, Next, and Later, which finally made progress feel possible... has anyone else tried a shorter planning cycle?

What about planning for just one week?

Take a hard look at what you actually want to get done in a week. Most people overestimate how much they can do in seven days (I've definitely been guilty of that). Is the week-long plan supposed to be flexible or strict with every hour mapped out? Because if it's the strict kind, you'll probably ditch it by day two when life throws a wrench in things. What's the main goal for that week - is it just to get a few key tasks done, or are you trying to build a new habit? Either way, keeping it simple with 3-4 big tasks beats a packed schedule that leaves you feeling like you failed.

Used to love big plans but this changed my mind.
