The print shop in Portland that made me ditch my templates

I used to rely on the same logo mockup templates for everything until I walked into a small print shop in Portland last summer. The owner showed me how they quickly tweak colors and layouts on the fly using simple layer comps and custom swatches. It hit me that I was spending way too long hunting for the perfect template when I could just build from scratch in 10 minutes. Anyone else have a moment where a random shop or studio totally shifted how you approach a basic task?
