That one critique about my font pairings made me ditch half my go-to typefaces

A senior designer I respect told me my headers and body text were fighting each other, so I cut down to just one serif and one sans for all my client work and now I spend way less time on type choices, has anyone else had a single piece of feedback completely change their approach to something in their workflow?

You ever notice how once you actually stop trying to impress yourself and start listening to someone who knows what they're talking about, everything gets easier? It's like that with a lot of stuff in life, not just design. I had a cook friend tell me I was using too many spices in my chili and it was just a mess of flavors. Cut it down to five things and now I actually taste the meat and beans instead of a kitchen sink. Sometimes the best feedback is just showing you where you're overcomplicating things.
