Just figured out that naming my layers is the only thing keeping me sane
For years, I'd just let Illustrator auto-name everything 'Path 147' or 'Group 23', and then spend 15 minutes hunting for one tiny shape. Last month, a 50-layer project for a local bakery's menu turned into a total mess. Now, I force myself to name every single layer as I make it, like 'background_leaf' or 'logo_text_shadow'. It adds maybe two seconds per step but saves me hours of frustration later. How do you guys keep your files from becoming a digital junk drawer?

Remember my buddy who spent a whole weekend just finding one layer in his old logo file?

I saw a post last week where a designer had over 200 layers in a single icon file. @nathan_davis, that story about your buddy hits home. It makes me wonder why we don't just name layers properly from the start. I guess old habits are hard to break.

Nah, I gotta be real with you, I don't think it's that serious. A whole weekend looking for one layer in a logo file? That's on him for not organizing his stuff better in the first place. People act like it's this massive tragedy, but it's just a lesson learned the hard way. We've all wasted time on dumb stuff like that, it's part of the job. Maybe he should've just rebuilt the logo from scratch instead of digging through 200 layers. Sometimes you just gotta cut your losses and move on, you know?
