I finally saw what my color palettes were missing after 8 years of guessing
I was working on a brand guide for a bakery in Portland and kept getting feedback that my colors felt 'flat'. After my 4th revision I accidentally opened the file on my phone and the colors popped like crazy. Turns out I had my monitor brightness at 30% for the whole time since I bought it in 2018. Has anyone else had their screen settings sabotage their designs without realizing it?

Is it weird how often we end up stuck in our own little bubble without even knowing it? I feel like this happens with way more than just monitors like not noticing your car's alignment is off until you drive someone else's or realizing your favorite playlist sounds different on good speakers. It's funny how a tiny default setting can totally change how you see your own work for years.

Wait, are you telling me I could have been driving with bad alignment this whole time and just thought my car naturally pulled to the right? @eric359 that monitor example hits different honestly, I’ve been using the same default color setting on my TV for like five years and only realized last week everything had that weird blue tint. It’s like finding out your favorite restaurant has been using the wrong recipe the whole time and you still loved it. Maybe we’re all just walking around with slightly broken tools and calling it normal.
