Found a weird trick for picking colors faster while painting my kitchen

Last week, I was doing a kitchen in a rental property. Had to match the existing trim color. Instead of guessing, I took a photo with my phone and used the color picker tool in a free app. Got the exact hex code in 10 seconds. Used that to find the closest off the shelf paint. Saved me an hour of mixing samples. Anyone else use phone cameras to cheat on color matching?

Ever try that with a paint chip under different store lights?

lucas972 that's actually the best way to do it, store lighting is always weird and makes colors look off. You really need to check the chip in the actual room's light at different times of day. I've made that mistake before and ended up with a wall color that looked totally wrong at night. Natural light shows you what you're really getting.
