A mentor in Seattle told me to stop naming layers by what they are
She said name them by what they do, like 'hero fade' instead of 'layer 12 copy'. I ignored her for months, then spent 3 hours tracking down a gradient that broke on a client file. Renamed everything last week and my file handoffs got cut by 40 minutes. Anyone else got a naming system that actually sticks?

Honestly, naming by what they do is the move, but don't sleep on adding the date or version number too. That gradient thing sounds like it sucked, but at least you learned it before it got worse.
