That neon sign in Austin changed how I think about negative space

I was walking around South Congress and this tiny taco shop had a sign that was mostly empty, just one glowing word. My old print teacher always said whitespace is the loudest thing you can use, and I never bought it until I saw that sign from half a block away. Do you ever catch yourself borrowing tricks from street signs when you layout a zine or poster?

That taco shop on South Congress, the one with the single glowing word, must hit different at night. I get what your teacher meant now, it's like the emptiness does the shouting for you. I've totally borrowed that trick for flyers, leaving big blank spaces where I used to cram every detail. It feels wrong at first, like you're wasting paper, but the eye lands exactly where you want it. Glad that sign clicked for you, it's a good feeling when something finally makes sense.
