I always stuck posters on plain white walls until last month at a coffee shop in Portland

For years I'd just buy a poster I liked and slap it up on any blank wall. Then I saw how this local shop matched their event flyers to the brick color behind them using a simple paper trim. The whole thing looked like it belonged instead of just being stuck there. Has anyone else had a moment where the background totally changed how you saw a piece?

honestly I think you're overthinking it. Like who actually stares at the wall color behind a poster long enough to care if it matches? I've got posters from garage sales and thrift stores and they all look fine on whatever wall I put them on. That brick matching thing sounds like something an interior designer would make up to charge more money.

yeah I mean I kinda thought the same thing until I actually tried it myself. I had this old band poster that always looked kinda off in my room and I just figured it was the poster itself. then I moved it to a different wall and suddenly it popped way more. idk maybe it's just me but the wall color really does matter more than you'd think. like I'm not saying you gotta go full designer mode but sometimes a simple switch makes a huge difference.
