Got burned by a cheap paper cutter from the craft store

Spent $18 on a guillotine paper cutter at Michaels and the blade went dull after like 15 cuts on some nice card stock. Ended up with jagged edges on all my zine pages. Anyone found a decent tabletop trimmer that actually lasts?

Are 15 cuts really enough to kill a blade or did you just hit a staple or something?

Start with 15 cuts on the same spot and you'll likely hit a weak point in the blade just like a staple would do. Most blades have a tiny sweet spot where the steel is thinnest and most stressed from all that cutting. Hit that area over and over with a dulling cut and the edge will just snap off or roll over real quick. I've had blades die from way fewer cuts than that when they were cheap steel or I was cutting something with a hard glue coat on it.
