A graphic designer friend told me my zine layout was lazy, and she was right
I was showing off this little zine I made for a local band show in Denver, like 12 pages, felt pretty proud of the chaos. She flipped through it once and said "you just slapped everything in the same corner on every page, that's not a style, that's a habit." I got defensive at first, but then I looked again and yeah, every single spread had the same heavy block in the top left. Totally lazy grid work. It hit different because she didn't criticize the art or the paper, she called out the lack of thought in the placement. Has anyone else had a moment where a pro pointed out something so basic it made you rethink your whole approach? What was the fix for you?

Notice how the same lazy habit creeps into everything once someone points it out, even folding laundry the same way every time.
