That talk with a UX designer at a coffee shop last Tuesday completely flipped my view on white space

She said 'beginners think empty space is wasted, but it's actually what controls the user's breathing room in a layout.' I had been cramming elements together for months on a landing page project, and after I doubled the margins between sections it actually looked professional for the first time. Has anyone else had a random stranger's tip completely change how you work?

Not really feeling that. White space is just empty room, not some magic trick. If your layout sucks, doubling margins isn't gonna fix bad content or confusing navigation. I've seen plenty of sites with huge gaps that still look amateur because the actual meat of it is garbage. You can put all the breathing room you want around a turd, but it's still a turd.

Yeah @the_jason has a point but that tip actually made me stop choking my layouts.
