Rant: Stop centering everything just because it looks balanced

I spent 3 months in a Denver print shop doing flyers for local bands, and every single draft I turned in had the text dead center. It took a friend pointing at one poster and saying "this looks like a parking ticket" for me to see it. Centered type only works for short lines or invites, not for paragraphs or mixed info blocks. Has anyone else had that moment where you finally see your own layout as boring, and what do you use instead for alignment?

Ever printed something so centered it looked like the DMV sent it? I feel that, my first zine was basically a parking ticket with worse grammar. These days I lean everything left and let the ragged edge do the talking, plus I throw in a weird off-center photo or a tilted headline to keep it human. Still catch myself sliding back to center when I'm tired, but now it's a red flag not a default.
