Hex codes on screen vs printed, my business card joke backfired

I spent a week picking a deep green for my logo, matched it perfectly in Figma, and sent it to a local print shop in Austin. When the cards showed up, the color looked like swamp water, not the rich forest tone I saw on my monitor. The printer told me my screen brightness was tricking me, and sure enough, they were right about the gamma difference. I learned the hard way to order a physical proof before committing to 500 cards, that was a $45 lesson. Now I always check my colors on at least two devices and ask for a print sample first. Has anyone else been burned by this, or do you have a trick for predicting the shift?
