Grid systems felt like math homework, now I get it after one bad flyer

I spent two weeks fighting with a 12-column grid for a church fundraiser flyer. Kept eyeballing everything, and it looked okay until I printed it and the text boxes were all over the place. Finally watched a 20 minute YouTube breakdown from a guy in Portland who showed rulers and spacing tricks. Rebuilt it in one evening and suddenly the layout just clicked. Has anyone else avoided grids for a while and then had one project totally change their mind?

Printed it out wrong once and now grids are all I use, same exact thing happened to me.
