Warning: That solo designer who never documents is a ticking time bomb

I had a junior designer leave our team last summer after 14 months, and his button component had 37 different unnamed variants buried in Figma layers. When I asked him about it on his last Friday, he said "it just works" and shrugged. Has anyone else dealt with a designer who treated the design system like a personal sketchbook?

Honestly, I gotta push back a little on this one. That "it just works" attitude is frustrating for sure, but sometimes a designer is just trying to get stuff done without getting bogged down in naming everything.

Naming things is kind of a huge part of making things usable though.
