Found a 1962 type specimen book, it changed how I kern
I dug up an old Monotype specimen book from 1962 at a thrift store in Columbus last Saturday. The kerning tables in there are wild, they show specific letter pair spacing down to the thousandth of an em. It made me realize modern font software hides so much of that craft, I spent three hours comparing it to my current digital type library. Has anyone else worked from physical specimens and noticed a difference in how you approach spacing?
