Appreciation post: switched from drawing on my phone at lunch to a cheap sketchbook at my desk, and the paper won
For about a year I sketched every idea on my phone during lunch. Just thumb stuff, little UI layouts, icons, nothing fancy. Last Tuesday I grabbed a $6 sketchbook and a pen from the drugstore on my way in and tried that instead.
The phone was fast but I kept deleting things. Draw a shape, hate it, undo, redraw, undo. Twenty minutes gone and nothing left on the page. The paper doesn't let me do that. Every bad line just sits there and I have to work around it, and honestly that's where the good stuff shows up.
I filled 11 pages in two weeks. On my phone I hadn't saved a sketch in a month. Something about seeing all the junk next to each other makes me spot the one idea worth keeping.
Anyone got a pen they actually like for quick rough stuff? Mine smears when I drag my hand across it.
