A quick chat about type spacing changed my whole Monday workflow
I was showing a recent poster draft to a print shop guy named Carl yesterday, and he pointed at my letter spacing and said 'you are squeezing the descenders into the ascenders over there.' He was right, I had set the leading to 1.2 times the font size for years without thinking twice. Turns out for that bold serif I use on headers, 1.45 works way better, especially at 48 point and above. It only took him 30 seconds to spot what I had been missing for over 200 client pieces. Has anyone else had a production person catch something that basic that you just never questioned before?
