A designer at the Austin meetup told me my sketchbook looked too clean
I was showing my morning sketches at a coffee shop on South Congress last Tuesday and she flipped through a few pages and said "where are the bad ones?" That one line stuck with me because I had been ripping out messy pages before anyone could see them. Now I keep the ugly first drafts in there, has anyone else had someone call out their sketchbook like that?

Wait, people are supposed to keep the bad pages? I thought the whole point of a sketchbook was to make it look like you never made a mistake. Sounds like your designer friend was just mad her own book isn't as tidy as yours, right? Honestly though, I've done the same thing, tearing out pages I hated before anyone could peek. Maybe the messy stuff is where the good ideas actually hide.
