A barista in Austin made me question my whole color palette

I was sketching a logo for a coffee shop at their counter last Tuesday, and the barista looked at my screen and said, "your oranges are too safe." I got defensive, but then he pointed at the sunset coming through the window and said real color has dirt in it. Hit different because I've spent 5 years picking clean hex codes and never once thought about adding ugly to make it feel alive. Now I'm stuck wondering how much of my style is just fear. Has anyone else had a stranger's throwaway comment rewire their whole approach?
