Walked through a new apartment complex and the open shelving in the kitchen just felt like a dust trap
I saw these floating wooden shelves above the stove with literally nothing on them but a single jar. Has anyone here actually lived with open shelving and not regretted the cleaning?

Read somewhere that people who love open shelving basically treat their dishes like art pieces and only keep like 4 mugs and 3 plates out. The rest is hidden in cabinets and drawers. So if you're someone who actually has matching sets and uses different bowls for cereal versus soup, it's gonna look cluttered fast. I remember a kitchen designer saying the dust issue is real too, especially if you cook anything with oil or steam. That jar above the stove would get a greasy film in like a week.

My friend did open shelving and spent every Sunday dusting her bowls with a damp cloth.
