Told my dad I didn't need to prime the walls before painting my bathroom... big mistake

Honestly, I thought skipping primer would save me like $30 and an hour of work. My dad warned me not to do it, but I figured I knew better since I'd watched a few TikTok tutorials. Ended up painting the bathroom three times because the old beige color kept bleeding through the new gray paint. After spending $60 on extra paint and 4 hours total, I finally caved and bought a $12 can of primer. The final coat went on perfect in one pass. Anyone else learn this lesson the hard way with a quick DIY project?

Wait, did you really try to paint over beige with gray without priming? Because that sounds like a nightmare. The color bleed is the worst part too, I swear the old color knows exactly when you skip primer. I did something similar last summer when I tried to paint a dark blue accent wall white. It took me four coats and I still ended up with this weird blue tint until I finally gave up and slapped some primer on. Save yourself the headache and money, prime before you paint anything. It's one of those lessons that sticks with you after you waste a whole weekend fixing your mistake.

Oh man, I feel this one deep in my soul lmao. I did the exact same thing last year with a dark green living room wall trying to go to a light cream. Thought I could save a few bucks on primer, ended up doing three coats and it still had this swampy green tint in certain light. Finally caved and bought primer, one coat and done. That weekend of frustration could have been one afternoon if I just did it right the first time.
