TIL the hard way that open shelving in a kitchen collects dust like crazy
I thought open shelves would look so modern and airy (you know, like those Instagram kitchens). But after just one week in my 1920s bungalow in Richmond, every single bowl and mug had a fine layer of dust on it. I spent a whole Saturday afternoon wiping down each piece before I even cooked dinner. Has anyone else tried open shelving and just regretted it immediately?

Brings up how we always want things to look like the magazine version instead of how they actually work in real life.

Did I read somewhere that some magazine kitchens actually have fake food and temporary surfaces just for the photo shoot? It makes so much sense when you think about it. They'll stage a whole sink full of fancy soap and a cute plant, but in real life most of us have a sponge and a drying rack out. It's like those perfectly folded towel pictures, nobody actually lives like that unless company is coming over.
