The sample board that changed how I pick tile for kitchens

I was at a tile store in Tacoma last weekend and this older guy was telling the salesperson he always takes samples home and leans them against his own cabinets for 3 days. He said lighting in the store is too warm and it lies to you. So I grabbed a light gray porcelain piece and a darker slate one, took them home, and sure enough the gray turned almost blue under my kitchen lights. I spent 20 minutes just moving them around at different times of day. Has anyone else had a sample surprise them like that after paying for a full install?

What about humidity? Porcelain changes color when wet, dry, and cold.
