PSA: A $15 paint edger tool saved my trim work in one afternoon

I was repainting my living room in Denver last weekend and kept getting jagged lines where the wall meets the crown molding. I tried tape and it still bled through, so I grabbed this little paint edger with a built-in guide wheel at the hardware store for $15. It has a little pad that you dip in paint and roll along the edge, and it literally gave me a perfect straight line in 20 minutes. Has anyone else had good luck with those edger tools, or is there a better hack for clean trim?

That edger tool is a lifesaver. I fought with painter's tape for years on my baseboards and always ended up with that little bit of bleed through no matter how careful I was. Picked up one of those guide wheel edgers last spring for a hallway project and it made the job almost fun instead of frustrating. The key is keeping the pad loaded with just the right amount of paint, not too wet or it drips. My lines were so clean my neighbor actually asked if I had hired someone to do the trim.

The key is keeping the pad loaded with just the right amount of paint" - yeah, that's where I messed up royally my first time. I loaded that thing up like it was a sponge at a car wash and ended up with a paint waterfall dripping down my wall. Looked like Jackson Pollock met my living room. But after I figured out the right dip, it was night and day. I actually got so excited about my perfect lines that I stood back to admire it and stepped in the paint tray.
