Picked a $12 tube of painter's caulk over a $40 tube at the hardware store and I'm still mad about it
Redoing the trim in my upstairs hallway and I had two tubes of caulk sitting on the counter at the store in Sacramento. One was the cheap white acrylic for about $12, the other was the fancy siliconized stuff for close to $40. I stood there for five minutes doing math in my head and grabbed the cheap one because the trim is getting painted anyway. Big mistake. That stuff shrank and cracked along the baseboard within two weeks, and I could see every gap again. So I scraped it all out with a putty knife, which took me a whole Sunday, and dropped $40 on the good tube. The good stuff went on smooth and it's been solid for three months now. The annoying part is I knew better, I just talked myself into saving $28 and paid for it with a wasted afternoon. Anyone got a caulk they actually trust for baseboards, or should I just never go cheap on this again?
