My uncle told me to paint my kitchen ceiling the same color as the walls and I thought he was crazy

He insisted it would make the low 8-foot ceiling in my 1920s bungalow feel taller, and after trying it with a light gray, the room actually does feel more open and less choppy. I spent about $50 on an extra gallon of the wall paint to do it. Has anyone else tried this trick in a small room?

That trick works because it stops your eye from hitting a hard ceiling line. It basically blurs the boundary of where the wall ends, so the space feels less boxed in. Your uncle knew what he was talking about.

Tried that in my old apartment with the eight-foot ceilings. Painted the crown molding the same cream color as the ceiling, not the wall. It really did make the room feel taller and airier, just like your uncle said.
