My uncle laughed at my crown molding plan in 2017 and he was dead right

Back when I bought my first house in Denver, I wanted to put up this big fancy crown molding in the living room. My uncle Ralph who does remodeling came over and said "you're gonna hate yourself after the third corner." I thought he was just being dramatic. Eight hours later I had three crooked miters, a jammed nail gun, and a pile of scrap wood on the floor. I finally called him up and he walked me through cutting crown molding flat on the saw instead of standing it up. That trick saved me on the bedroom project last month. Anybody else learn the hard way that some old school advice is worth listening to?

Wait is crown molding really that hard though? I put up some basic stuff in my bathroom last year and it took me like two hours tops. Maybe I just got lucky but I didn't need any special tricks to make the corners work. Seems like a lot of drama for some trim.

Wait, did you try coping the inside corners? That's the real game changer right there.
