My sister told me my accent wall looked like a 'sad hotel lobby' and she was right

I painted a feature wall in my living room a dark blue last month, thinking it would look modern. My sister came over and straight up said it felt cold and cheap, like a chain hotel. She suggested adding texture or a different finish. So I went back, got some grasscloth wallpaper in a light tan, and put it over just that one wall. The whole room feels warmer now and the blue furniture pops way more. Has anyone else tried covering up a paint color they didn't like with wallpaper instead of repainting?

Honestly that's such a good fix. I feel like we're all trying to make our places look like a magazine and then realize it just needs to feel like a home.

Forget the magazines, my place just needs to not have a pile of clean laundry on the chair. That's the real home feeling.

Used to be all about the perfect throw pillows and matching trays. @ninam86 got me though, realizing it's the messy spots that make a place feel lived in. Clean chair is now my new goal.
