My contractor buddy Ron made me rethink open shelving in kitchens
Last weekend I was helping my friend Ron swap out a faucet in his place and we got to talking about kitchen design. He told me he absolutely REFUSES to install open shelving in any kitchen where the homeowners actually cook a lot. I thought he was just being dramatic at first because I love the look of open shelves. But then he showed me the grease film that builds up on his own glass cabinets in just two weeks after a big stir fry night. It hit me different because I had been dreaming about this open shelf kitchen in a farmhouse style for my own house. He asked me straight up if I wanted to spend my Saturday scrubbing olive oil residue off ceramic plates that nobody even sees. Now I'm leaning hard towards solid upper cabinets with maybe one small glass section instead. Has anyone else had a contractor talk them out of a trendy design choice?

the grease film part is real but I actually love having open shelves anyway.

Found that keeping fewer things on my shelves solved the grease problem, @lilyt90.
