My $30 moisture meter gave me false readings for 6 months before I caught it

I was redoing my basement floor and used a pin-type moisture meter to check the slab before laying down LVP planks. It read 4% across the board which I thought was fine. After two months I noticed bubbling under the planks near the bathroom wall. I bought a different meter a pinless one for 80 bucks and it showed 12% moisture in that spot. Turns out the old meter was faulty probably from sitting in my damp garage. I had to pull up 200 square feet of flooring and let the slab dry for three weeks. Has anyone else run into a tool that just failed on them without warning?

Wow, a tool just lying to you like that for six months?

So wait, the pinless one read 12% in just that one spot near the bathroom? That sounds more like a leak from the wall than the whole slab being wet... I'd double check that corner before you lay anything back down.
