I finally tried that limewash paint on my brick fireplace after seeing it online, and it dried with these weird, patchy streaks.

I followed the instructions to a T, mixing the powder with water and applying two coats with a big brush, but maybe my old Chicago brick just soaked it up unevenly, so has anyone else had this happen and know how to fix it without starting over?

Honestly, same thing happened on my brick planter box last year. Tbh I think the old brick just drinks up the limewash at totally different rates. I ended up doing a super thin third coat and working it in with a damp sponge while it was still wet, which helped blend it a lot. Ngl it was a pain but way better than stripping it all off.

My neighbor's cinder block wall did that with whitewash too.

Wait, did @grant569's neighbor use that Romabio stuff or just regular lime? I was reading up on this a while back and it seems like a lot of the issues come from people skipping the primer step on super porous block. Heard some guys talking about how you gotta mist the wall with water first to slow down the suction or you get that patchy look every time. Kinda makes sense if you think about it like painting dry drywall, you know?
