Found out my go-to paint color was actually different in real life than on samples

I just grabbed a sample of 'Revere Pewter' from the hardware store after seeing it on like 20 blogs, but when I painted a swatch on my wall it was way more gray than beige. Turns out the lighting in those photo shoots was all warm studio lights, not my north-facing living room. Now I'm wondering if the whole 'paint colors look the same everywhere' thing is a myth. Has anyone else tested a popular color in their own space and gotten totally different results?

My buddy painted 'Agreeable Gray' in her kitchen and it looked straight-up purple.

Did you see it in natural light or under a warm bulb? I actually painted my own living room with Agreeable Gray and it stayed a nice warm greige (not purple at all). @janahenderson, it might depend on the undertones in your friend's kitchen cabinets or countertops, because that paint can pull pinkish next to cool whites or shiny stainless steel. Mine looks totally beige-gray with a hint of greenish undertone during the day, so I'm surprised to hear it went purple on her.
